Driving through Amish Country and onto JFK/UK

Farewelled Maria and Tim... thanks for looking after us so well... definitely a five star stop over :-) Hope to see you in Australia next time.  Next stop the Amish Countryside.


Stopped off in York for a take-away coffee on the way, and came across these cute scarecrows outside someone's front door.

Next stop Bird-in-Hand for a looksie... loved all these pumpkins... getting ready for Halloween I see!  In one of the shops there were Amish Bonnets... thought I'd try one on and Dave took a photo... then we saw a sign saying do not try on and do not take photography!! Ooops... very sorry!! 












Next stop Intercourse.







Now to work our way to New York and JFK.  

Going over the Pennsylvannia Turnpike which spans over the Delaware River.

The New Jersey Turnpike... check out all the lanes and two lanes specifically for trucks.

We actually had a couple of hours up our sleeve so we decided to explore Long Beach and enjoy an ice-cream on the waterfront before our flight.


The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge is a double-decked suspension bridge that connects the New York City boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn.



While Dave's driving along I managed to capture this photo below of New York and in the far left the Statue of Liberty!

  









Dropped our rental car off at the JFK rental depot and dropped our bags off at the check-in desk... all very straight forward... now to sit and relax for a couple of hours in the airport lounge with a beer and blog updating!!  UK Mum and Dad here we come!!!  All on schedule and arrived into Manchester all on time after a smooth 6hr flight to two very well looking and excited parents :-)


Hour or so drive home and time to chill for a few days.  Till our next update... our first from the UK.

Day at the US Open

Welcome back :-) We arrived by taxi from JFK to our hotel for the next couple of nights... The Bor o Hotel New York.  I was extremely happy with our selection.  Great views, albeit very misty and wet outside.  Shower powerful.  Comfy bed and pillows.  A great start to the holidays :-) We completely crashed last night as you could imagine after travelling 22 hours!!!  Awoke feeling quite refreshed but still had a stuffy head cold!!!  Unfortunately the weather was pretty miserable too, though the forecast says its to clear in the afternoon.  Thankfully it did :-) A view of the Queensboro Bridge and the city in the mist! view of the chimney's of the Ravenswood Generating Station Once up and about we popped down for brekky in the hotel... they did the best avocado on brioche ever!!! Out & About in Northern Wales

Wonderful day out with Mum and Dave in Northern Wales... nice to see locations I've never even seen before! First of all we wanted to see the Tu Hwnt Ir Bont Tearooms  cottage which is in the market town of Llanrwst and the gateway to Snowdonia National Park.  This cottage is covered with ivy and in the fall it all turns a stunning red colour... looks like this photo.... photo copied from their website But unfortunately we had missed it by a week!!! The colours only last two weeks.  Plus they had a big storm the other day and it blew all the leaves off!!  Anyhow it was still lovely to see the cottage and really enjoyed their secret recipe of Welsh Raebit (another version of cheese on toast)... totally delicious!!! This is what the cottage looks like at present...  still pretty even though the Autumn colours have gone. Pont Fawr; Llanrwst Bridge Then onwards to Conwy Castle for a looksie... ...

New York.... New York!!!.... Day 3 and home.

Tuesday 10 October 2017 Hi again.... all great adventures must come to an end and our adventure unfortunately ends today.... but not until we have walked the High Line and maybe re-visit the Empire State Building if the weather is clearer as we still have two free entries on our pass. Weather check.... clear, bright, dry and sunny!!!! Yay!!!  Perfect for our last day! First job is to pack our cases so we can leave them with the concierge... its funny you don't mind how things get re-packed... anything goes!! We decided to have a late breakfast/lunch to last us till our flight out at 6.10pm. So first up a re-visit to the top of the Empire State Building... we got to the top and had our pass scanned and the guy looked at me and said you have already used this!!! I thought oh no... he's not going to let us in again!!! I said yes, yesterday, but the visibility was zero... he said did they not say to you, you can only utilise the pass once?  I said no they didn't.  I...
