New York.... New York!!!.... Day 3 and home.
Tuesday 10 October 2017
Hi again.... all great adventures must come to an end and our adventure unfortunately ends today.... but not until we have walked the High Line and maybe re-visit the Empire State Building if the weather is clearer as we still have two free entries on our pass.
Weather check.... clear, bright, dry and sunny!!!! Yay!!! Perfect for our last day!
First job is to pack our cases so we can leave them with the concierge... its funny you don't mind how things get re-packed... anything goes!!
We decided to have a late breakfast/lunch to last us till our flight out at 6.10pm.
So first up a re-visit to the top of the Empire State Building... we got to the top and had our pass scanned and the guy looked at me and said you have already used this!!! I thought oh no... he's not going to let us in again!!! I said yes, yesterday, but the visibility was zero... he said did they not say to you, you can only utilise the pass once? I said no they didn't. I must have had a sad face on me as he very kindly let us both through again... thank you kind man. Phew we were soooo lucky... as the view was absolutely breathtaking this morning!!!!
The next three photos are looking up the Hudson River.... this first one is the spot we stopped off for a picnic on our way to Harrisburg.... Tallman Mountain State Park.... the second ridge on the left side...
Looking over to the Chrysler Building and beyond to the Queensboro Bridge; Ravenswood Generating Station and in the distance the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge...
Views down to Lower Manhattan... and One World Tower standing prominent in the distance...
The tall tower on the right with the gold dome on the top is the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower...
Guide your eye to the middle of this photo to the two slim towers with a bridge between... this is a new apartment construction.... Skybridge.... check it out... its very impressive!!! Love the pools!!
Wow... absolutely breathtaking!!!
Now for a 30 minute walk to the High Line... and hopefully find breakfast on the way.
Not far from the beginning of the High Line walk we found the Skylight Diner... a very traditional old school American diner... perfect!!
Now all fuelled up were ready for our next adventure along the High Line... starting at W 34th Street... at Hudson Yards end and finishing up at Gansevoort Street.
This hexagon shaped structure is going to be called The Vessel – created by Thomas Heatherwick and Heatherwick Studio, one of the world’s foremost design visionaries, and Heatherwick Studio, is a new kind of public landmark: engaging and interactive, meant to be climbed and explored. Comprised of 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs—almost 2,500 individual steps— and 80 landings, Vessel will lift the public up, offering a multitude of ways to engage with and experience New York, Hudson Yards and each other. In total, Vessel will offer a mile’s worth of pathway rising up above the Gardens.
Loved all the water towers around the city... they make great features!
See if you can spot the silver Lamborghini down the road...
This footbridge/skybridge spanning the W 15th Street, at Chelsea Market dates to 1930. It was built to connect the former Nabisco Factory with the snack-maker's offices across the street. These days, it's used by private companies and not open to the public.
Really loved this High Line walk... quite an oasis in New York... surprisingly quiet too!!! And so lovely to see lots of plants growing too.
Yay lets get an Uber back into the city.... fancy a cocktail on the top of the Met Museum... overlooking Central Park... plus a quick squizzie through the museum... I read that the roof top has amazing views overlooking Central Park too...
This following exhibition is The Theatre of Disappearance... by Adrian Villar Rojas
The views were amazing, another oasis in the city me thinks!
Now for our last wander through Central Park back to our hotel.. good to stretch our legs before our 20 hour flight ahead!!!
I remember a Liam Neeson movie... 'Taken' I think being filmed at this location below...
Got back to our hotel at 2.00pm ready for our ride to the airport... but before we left the hotel we got a text from Qantas advising our flight was delayed for 3 hours!!! Hmmm!!! Yay... lets stay in the city for a few more hours... I know lets find another roof top bar for a relaxing drink/cocktail :-)
So after a quick google to find out what was where and what was open we discovered The Monarch Roof Top bar at the top of the Courtyard by Marriott on 35th Street, just down the road... awesome!!
Well it was awesome too... great roof top bar and amazing view of the Empire State Building towering over you!!! Delicious Cosmopolitan too!!!
Cheers!!!
After a relaxing drink we headed back to our hotel, and as we hadn't received any more delays we collected our bags and headed out to the airport... Thankfully we left when we did as it took us over an hour and a half to get to the airport!!! Traffic was horrendous!!! Oh we also had some fabulous news too... that we had been upgraded to Business Class all the way home.... thank you so much Qantas!! What a way to end an absolutely incredible six week holiday... well deserved might I add after our horrendous year previously!!
Checked in at JFK... wow what a totally unorganised airport that is!!! I think they could definitely learn a thing or two from other airports... particularly in terms of going through customs and security!!!
Found our Lounge and ensconced ourselves there for the next couple of hours.
Finally arrived in to Sydney around 10.30am to a stunning day and amazing decent over the city.

Ooooh soooo nice to be home.... don't think we will take much rocking tonight!!!
Thanks for an amazing holiday darling.... love you so very much xxx

The iconic Flatiron Building.... originally the Fuller Building... is a triangular 22-story steel-framed landmarked building located at 175 Fifth Avenue in the borough of Manhattan, and is considered to be a groundbreaking skyscraper according to wikipedia... I must admit its a pretty impressive building.
